The interview process

As Revolut's senior recruitment manager described it in 2024.1

  1. Recruiter call30 min

A high-level check on your fit for the role and the culture.

  2. Coding assessment

    A technical coding challenge.

  3. Technical interview

A conversation across your technical skills and areas of work, with more coding.

  4. System design

An applied architecture challenge, which Revolut calls the "boss level" of the process.

  5. Team fit30 min

A conversation with the product owner or head of department for the team you'd join.

What Revolut looks for

Revolut hires against five values.2

  • Get It Done. "We care about results."
  • Deliver WOW. Turning complexity into simple products that solve customer needs.
  • Dream Team. Selecting, coaching and keeping top talent.
  • Never Settle. Always striving for excellence.
  • Think Deeper. "Logic, reason, and common sense prevail over everything else in decision making."

Questions to expect

Based on what each stage tests and Revolut's values.

Technical interview

Walk me through the most complex system you've worked on. What would you change about it now?

How do you make sure code that moves money is correct?

System design

Design a service that sends customers a real-time notification every time their card is used.

Design a currency exchange feature that handles millions of transactions a day without losing a single one.

Team fit

Tell me about something you shipped that you're proud of. What would you do differently?

Tell me about a decision where you relied on logic over opinion.

How to prepare

  1. Get comfortable with timed coding. Two stages involve coding, so solve problems quickly and cleanly.
  2. Prepare properly for system design. It's the toughest round. Work through scalability, consistency and failure handling, which matter more when the system moves money.
  3. Talk through your reasoning. "Think Deeper" is a stated value, so show the logic behind every choice.2
  4. Bring results. Have two or three stories with clear outcomes for the team fit round.
  5. Know the numbers. 68.3 million retail customers, $6.0bn revenue and the new UK banking licence.3
