About Checkout.com

Checkout.com is headquartered in London and has 2,300 employees worldwide, according to a company release from September 2026.1 In that release it said it had "reached $750m in annualised net revenue, growing 28% year over year" on a trailing 12-month basis.1 It said it serves over 1,700 enterprise merchants, operates across 56 countries and holds 10 acquiring licences.1

For full-year 2026, Checkout.com said it "expects to achieve c.$150m in Adjusted EBITDA" and expects total payment volume to reach $480bn.1 In 2025 it processed $300B in total payment volume, "a 64% increase year-over-year", and grew net revenue by over 30% for the second consecutive year. It said it achieved full-year EBITDA profitability in 2025, with an "adjusted EBITDA margin exceeding 10%".2 As of February 2026, Guillaume Pousaz is CEO and Founder.2

The interview process

As Checkout.com's jobs page describes it. The page covers hiring in general, not software engineering alone.3

  1. Application and recruiter screen

Checkout.com says: "The start of our application process is the same for all of our roles." Of the screen itself, it says: "We want to learn a bit about you through a casual conversation."3

  2. First round interview

In Checkout.com's words: "At this stage, an interview will help us both decide whether the interest is mutual."3

  3. Task or challenge

The page says: "Now it's time to apply your thinking to some real life situations." Across roles, it lists "completing a technical test, engaging in a role play or preparing a presentation to address a challenge" and says "we want to see you in action".3

    • For tech roles. The hiring FAQ answers the question "I've applied for a tech role, what does the technical interview involve?" with: "All technical interviews involve a take-home task that will test your capabilities with any technologies you will be working with in the role."3
  4. Final interview and offer

Checkout.com describes this stage as: "Once you've met the team, and we've gotten to know each other, it's time for us to both decide whether we're a match."3

The order is not fixed for every role. The jobs page says "for some roles the process can vary, for example the task may come before the interview, or be skipped entirely".3

On timing, the FAQ says: "From submitting your application to accepting an offer, the process usually takes four to six weeks." It adds: "It's sometimes less depending on the role." On feedback: "You will receive written feedback on all stages following the recruiter screen."3

The same FAQ says that, beginning on August 1st, Checkout.com will take a hybrid approach, with employees required to be in the office three days per week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. No year is given for that start date.3

Graduate and internship hiring follows a different process. The early careers (#NextGen) process covers those programmes rather than experienced software engineer hiring, and has five stages: apply online, a Checkout.com assessment, initial screening with the Talent Acquisition team, an assessment centre, and an offer.6 The assessment is described as: "Complete a short assessment designed to help us understand your strengths and how you approach challenges." The assessment centre is described as: "Take part in interactive exercises and meet Checkout.com colleagues to share how you think, collaborate and solve problems."6

What Checkout.com looks for

The careers page says: "We hire people who think big, move fast, and take ownership." It sets out three values.4

  • Aspire. "With big dreams and a long-term focus, we embrace ambition, driving our Aspire value."4
  • Excel. "By constantly pushing ourselves and each other to do our best work, we embody the spirit of Excel."4
  • Unite. "We come together as one team, rallying to make wins happen, forming the foundation of our Unite value."4

In a June 2026 careers-blog interview, Charlie, Global Director of Talent Acquisition and Transformation, spoke about hiring in general rather than engineering in particular. Charlie said: "The interview itself should reveal more than rehearsed examples." And: "We are less interested in a perfect answer than in how someone gets to it, what they challenge and what they do when the information is incomplete."5

In the same interview, Charlie said: "A CV is an important source of evidence, but it is not the verdict." And: "The strongest hire is not always the person with the most impressive answer in the room."5

Questions to expect

Based on what Checkout.com says each stage tests. Toby wrote these for practice; Checkout.com has not published them.

Recruiter screen

What draws you to Checkout.com, and to this team in particular?

Give me a short tour of the systems you work on day to day.

First round interview

Tell me about a problem you took ownership of when nobody had asked you to.

Describe a technical decision you made without all the information. What did you question along the way?

When have you had to move fast, and how did you protect quality while doing it?

Take-home task

Walk me through your solution. Which trade-offs did you accept, and why?

How did you test it, and what would you add with more time?

What would break first if traffic grew tenfold, and how would you respond?

Final interview

Which of Aspire, Excel and Unite fits the way you work best? Give an example.

Tell me about a win your team made happen that you could not have delivered alone.

What would you want to have achieved in your first months here?

How to prepare

  1. Study the stack in the job advert. The take-home task tests your capabilities with the technologies you will be working with in the role.3 Refresh the languages and tools the advert names before you start.
  2. Show your route to an answer. Charlie, speaking about hiring in general, said: "We are less interested in a perfect answer than in how someone gets to it, what they challenge and what they do when the information is incomplete."5 When you explain your work, say what you questioned and what you assumed where details were missing.
  3. Prepare stories you can go deep on. Charlie said the interview "should reveal more than rehearsed examples".5 Pick examples you know well enough to handle follow-up questions without a script.
  4. Tie examples to the three values. Have one story each for Aspire, Excel and Unite, and one that shows you thinking big, moving fast and taking ownership.4
  5. Read your written feedback. Checkout.com gives it on all stages after the recruiter screen.3 Use it to adjust before the next stage.
  6. Apply with focus. The FAQ suggests applying for no more than three roles at a time.3
  7. Know the numbers. $750m in annualised net revenue, over 1,700 enterprise merchants and operations across 56 countries.1

Worth mentioning in the interview

  • In January 2026 Checkout.com announced it had acquired Blue EMI, "a regulated electronic money institution authorised to issue euro stablecoins", and was establishing a technology centre in Vilnius, Lithuania.7
  • In February 2026 Checkout.com said it is live with Google's new Universal Commerce Protocol and supports both Visa Intelligent Commerce and Mastercard's Agentpay framework, as it positions for agentic commerce.2
  • In September 2026 it said the US accounts for 20% of its volumes and US processing is "growing over 120% year to date".1
  • In 2025 Checkout.com "grew our team by 15% to 2,000 staff globally" and opened new hubs in San Francisco, Atlanta and São Paulo.2
  • Tech.eu reported on 29 September 2026 that Checkout.com is "valued at $12bn". It also reported a $40m dividend paid from Checkout Limited to the parent company, and that Checkout said this was an internal treasury transaction, not money given out to shareholders.8
