About Toby

What is Toby?

Toby is an AI mock interviewer. You tell it the job you've applied for, and it researches the company, maps the interview process, and then interviews you in a realistic video call. Afterwards you get a scored debrief on every answer, with what worked, what to fix and a stronger version built from what you said.

How does AI mock interview practice with Toby work?

Paste the job description or company link. Toby builds a prep brief and the questions each round is likely to ask. Then you pick a round, a mode and a length (10, 20 or 30 minutes) and join a practice call with Toby Higgins, the AI interviewer. He asks questions, listens to your answers and follows up, like a real interviewer would. When you finish, you get your debrief.

Who is Toby for?

Anyone with an interview coming up: graduates preparing for their first job, people changing careers, and experienced candidates going for senior roles. Toby works from the job description, so it isn't limited to one industry or job type.

What kinds of interviews can I practice?

Toby maps the rounds for your role and lets you practice each one. Typical rounds include a recruiter screen, a hiring manager interview, a case study and a values or behavioural interview. Questions are tagged by competency and difficulty, and marked when real candidates have reported them.

Can I practice for a specific company and job?

Yes. That's the point of Toby. Its prep brief covers what the company does, how it makes money, recent news and how the team works, plus talking points worth raising in the interview. The interview questions are written for that role, not taken from a generic list.

Can I practice on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom?

Toby runs in your browser, in a call that looks and works like Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Zoom. Pick the one your real interview uses so the layout and controls feel familiar on the day. There's nothing to install.

What's the difference between Real mode and Coach mode?

Real mode runs the interview straight through, like the day itself, with a full debrief at the end. Coach mode gives you one or two quick notes after each answer and a chance to try again. Coach notes only appear once you've finished talking, so nothing interrupts you mid-answer.

What feedback do I get after a mock interview?

A score out of 100, each competency for the role scored from 1 to 5 with the quote behind it, and delivery stats: talk time, speaking pace in words per minute, filler words and answer length. Every answer is broken down into what worked and what to fix, with a stronger version built only from what you said. The full transcript is included.

Does Toby help with behavioural questions and the STAR method?

Yes. Toby checks whether your answers give a specific situation, what you did and the result. It flags missing pieces, such as an example with no measurable outcome, and suggests how to add a baseline and the change you made.

How is Toby different from using a chatbot or a list of questions?

Toby is built for interviews. It researches your specific company and role, runs a spoken interview in a realistic call so you practice under real pressure, and scores you against the competencies that role is assessed on. You get structured, repeatable feedback rather than a chat transcript.

Privacy and practicalities

Do I need to turn my camera on?

No. You can practice with your camera on or off. If you turn it on, your video is only shown on your own screen. It isn't recorded, uploaded or stored.

Are my interviews recorded?

Your voice is transcribed during the call so Toby can respond and write your debrief. Video is never recorded. You can delete any session, including its transcript and debrief, at any time.

What do I need to use Toby?

A laptop, tablet or phone with an up-to-date browser and a microphone. A quiet room and headphones help, just as they would for a real video interview.

Can I use Toby during a real interview?

No. Toby is for practice before the interview. Using it for live help during a real interview or assessment isn't allowed under our terms.

Will Toby guarantee me the job?

No one can promise that. Toby helps you prepare: you'll have heard the hard questions before, rehearsed your answers out loud and know exactly what to improve.
