The interview process

As Jet2's cabin crew careers page sets it out, in 8 steps.2

  1. Apply onlineUp to 10 min

You apply online and answer questions on role essential information. Jet2 says this "Takes up to 10 minutes to complete".2

  2. Online assessmentUp to 35 min

Next comes a task based online assessment, which "Takes up to 35 minutes to complete".2

  3. Video interview3 questions

Jet2's instruction for this step is simple: "Record yourself answering 3 questions".2

  4. Assessment event4 hours

Jet2 describes it as "A 4hr in person session at a venue close to one of our airports".2

  5. Talent Pool

After the assessment event you join the Talent Pool to "Await a place on a training course".2

  6. Book a training place

This step is to "Confirm your space on one of our 4 week dedicated training courses". Jet2 adds: "Places are limited so we recommend securing your place on a course as soon as you receive your offer."2

  7. Pre-employment checks

You "Start the vetting process to obtain your airside pass".2 You need a 5-year employment history and criminal record checks for any country where you have lived for more than 6 months in the last 2 years, and you complete a full airport vetting process.2

  8. Pass training and start flying4 weeks

The course covers safety, emergency procedures, First Aid and Dangerous Goods. Jet2 says: "Our Cabin Crew training is fully paid from day one."2

Choose your airport with care. The London Stansted vacancy says "Only one Cabin Crew application is permitted per recruitment season" and asks you to apply only for the airport you want to be based at, as subsequent applications cannot be considered.3

Life on the line: hours, location and pay

  • Where you live. You must live within 50 miles of your allocated airport or be able to commute to it within 75 minutes. Otherwise, Jet2 says "you would need to relocate closer to your allocated airport."2
  • Hours. Jet2 says "Being Cabin Crew is not a normal 9-5 role" and duties can start "as early as 4 or 5am, any day of the week."2 Crew frequently work 12-hour days, and Jet2 advises regular exercise and healthy eating.2
  • Standby. On home standby you must be contactable and able to reach the airport with 2 hours' notice. On airport standby you wait at the airport in uniform.2
  • Vacancy requirements. The London Stansted vacancy asks for a valid UK/EU passport with the required validity and a full 5-year employment, education or activity history. You must pass pre-employment referencing and criminal record checks, meet medical and health and safety requirements, be able to fasten the Crew Jump Seat safety harness, and meet reach and mobility standards.3
  • Earnings. Cabin crew receive performance-based rewards on top of company-wide benefits, and onboard sales earn commission under what Jet2 calls an "industry-leading commission scheme".2 The Fixed Term Cabin Crew vacancy at London Stansted advertises "Excellent OTE of £35,200+ (pro rata for the length of the contract) including commission, flight duty and sector pay."3 That figure is on-target earnings for that one vacancy.
  • The Stansted contract. It is full-time and fixed-term until the end of the Summer Season (November 2027), with potential to return for Summer 2028. It includes a 4-week CAA Approved paid training course with no upfront costs.3 Listed benefits include a contributory pension, life assurance of 3x annual salary, 37 days' annual leave a year (pro rata, including Bank Holidays), travel discounts and an Employee Assistance Programme.3
  • Company-wide rewards. Jet2's rewards for all staff include life assurance of 3 times basic salary from day one, a discretionary profit share scheme for non-management staff, a pension plan with employer contributions, the "A Great Deal Friendlier" recognition scheme, discounts on Jet2 products and a Sharesave scheme.4

Practice questions

Practice questions written by Toby, not Jet2's own. They draw on how Jet2 describes the role and its values.

Video interview practice

Why do you want to fly as cabin crew with Jet2?

Tell me about a time you gave a customer an experience they remembered.

Describe a moment when you took responsibility for putting a problem right.

Assessment event practice

Tell me about a time you stayed calm and in control during a serious situation.

How would you build trust quickly with crew you had only just met?

How would you approach onboard sales while keeping the service friendly?

How would you manage very early starts and long days, week after week?

How to prepare

  1. Structure your answers. Jet2's general interview advice, which is not specific to cabin crew, says "Use the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) technique to help structure your answers" to competency questions.5 Jet2's Support & Guidance page, written for emerging talent roles, also says: "Remember to structure your answers, giving specific examples and using the STAR technique (Situation, Task, Action, Result)."6
  2. Research the company. The same general advice suggests researching "the company's background, culture, values, products or services, and any recent news."5
  3. Test your camera. The same emerging talent page advises: "Test your kit to make sure your camera is working – always turn your camera on for a video interview".6 That page also says "We've created a mock video interview tool so you can experience what it's like to complete one of these assessments."6
  4. Rehearse out loud. Pick a short real example for each practice question above and say it aloud, so the recorded answers feel natural.
  5. Tie stories to the values. Match your examples to Take Me There, Work As One Team, Create Memories and Take Responsibility, and include at least one about a serious or stressful moment.
  6. Get your history ready. Collect your 5-year employment history and the criminal record checks you need early, since vetting comes before training.2
  7. Book training fast. Jet2 recommends securing a course place as soon as you receive your offer, because places are limited.2
