About Palantir

Palantir says it builds software that empowers organisations "to effectively integrate their data, decisions, and operations at scale", through four platforms: Gotham, Foundry, AIP and Apollo.1 As of 31 December 2025, it had 954 customers and 4,429 full-time employees, 28% of them employed outside the United States.1 Its 2025 revenue was $4.5 billion, split 54% government and 46% commercial.1

In Q2 2026, revenue was $1.935 billion, up 93% year over year.2 US commercial revenue was $764 million, up 149%, and US government revenue was $809 million, up 90%.2

Palantir says "Forward Deployed Software Engineers (Deltas) are part of our Business Development org", with a mandate "to achieve technical and operational outcomes for our customers".3 It sets the Delta focus of "one customer, many capabilities" against the Software Engineer (Dev) focus of "one capability, many customers".3 Its 10-K puts it this way: "We embed directly with customers across numerous industries."1 The London Forward Deployed Software Engineer listing introduces the role with "Forward Deployed Engineering is a radical commitment to the outcome."4

Two London listings set out different requirements. The hybrid Forward Deployed Software Engineer listing says "Expect 25–50% travel, depending on team and location" and asks for "6+ months of relevant, post-college work experience".4 The on-site UK Government listing requires "Security clearance or the ability to obtain a clearance" and "1+ years of relevant, post-college work experience", and says "Ability to travel 25 – 75% required".5 Palantir says "New Grads are located across all of our offices including New York, Washington, DC, Palo Alto, Seattle, & London."3

The interview process

As Palantir's careers pages describe it. Its 'Getting Hired' page covers engineering hiring generally, not forward deployed roles alone.6

Palantir says "We build our interview process around our candidates." It adds that "The number and format of interviews that you'll go through will be personalized to your skillset and the type of role that you're looking for".6 For students and early talent, it says "The interview process varies based on the role you're most excited for", meaning Forward-Deployed Software Engineer or Software Engineer, and that "we will provide plenty of prep material ahead of each step".3

  1. Application

On the London Forward Deployed Software Engineer listing, you submit a CV and "Thoughtful responses to our application questions".4 The same listing says "you will never be asked to submit a payment or share financial information to participate in our interview process".4

  2. Phone interviews20–45 min each

Palantir says "Everyone starts with one or two phone interviews".6 Its phone interview guide says these typically last 20 to 45 minutes each.7

    • Background and motivation. Be prepared to talk about your background, your experiences and your interest in Palantir.7
    • Coding question. For engineering roles, "you'll also be asked a technical question that focuses on your coding abilities".7 You may be asked to "use HackerRank or Google Docs for the phone interview", and Palantir recommends a stable internet connection.7
    • Your questions. At the end of the call, the interviewer will ask whether you have any questions. Palantir says it typically responds "a week or two at the latest" after the interview.7
  3. On-site interviewsIn person or virtual

Palantir says "If the phone interviews go well, it's time to meet more members of our team in an 'on-site' interview", and refers to candidates being "invited to come on-site in-person or virtually".6

    • Your experience. "We'll be asking you questions about how you've executed, challenged yourself, motivated others, and made judgments—as well as where you've failed in the past."6
    • Analytical and technical problems. Palantir advises you to "talk through how you plan to approach the problem" and "ask questions if necessary".6
  4. Placement and offer

For students and early talent, Palantir says "Team placement at Palantir is heavily contingent on the information gathered during the interview process", including your experiences, interests and motivations, as well as what the business needs.3 The London new grad commercial listing, for candidates graduating in 2027 or earlier, says candidates who receive a written offer commit to confirming their decision within two weeks.8

What Palantir looks for

Palantir says "We know there are many kinds of engineers, so we've structured our interview process around the engineering competencies that we value most".6 It publishes six guides, covering the phone interview, writing good code, analysing the efficiency of code, navigating open-ended questions, solving technical problems and working inside existing systems.6 Here is how Palantir defines three of them.

  • Navigating open-ended questions. "The ability to tackle technical challenges that are open-ended in nature". Palantir adds: "At Palantir, we rarely work on problems that have a single optimal solution."9
  • Working inside existing systems. "The ability to work within the constraints and complexity of existing systems, codebases, and infrastructure."10
  • Solving technical problems. "The ability to find solutions to difficult or complex issues, using technology as a tool to solve problems".11

Beyond the competencies, Palantir says it is "looking for uniquely talented individuals who are bright, adaptable, and eager to be part of a tight-knit team".6 It asks you to "Tell us what you're passionate about", because "We want to know what motivates the people we meet."6

The London Forward Deployed Software Engineer listing names five values: "Going where you're needed most", "Agency", "Embracing the ambiguity", "Intrinsic motivations" and "Ruthless goal orientation".4 It asks for proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as Python, Java, C++ or TypeScript/JavaScript.4

Questions to expect

Based on what Palantir says each stage tests.

Phone interviews

Talk me through your background. Which piece of work are you proudest of?

What interests you about Palantir, and why the forward deployed role rather than software engineer?

Write a function that merges two sorted lists of records by ID. How efficient is your solution, and how would you improve it?

On-site: your experience

Tell me about a time you failed. What did you do next?

Describe a time you motivated others when a project had stalled.

Tell me about a judgement call you made with incomplete information.

When did you last push yourself well outside what you knew how to do?

On-site: technical and open-ended

A customer's data sits in several systems that don't talk to each other. Where would you start?

You've joined a large codebase you've never seen and need to add a feature this week. How do you approach it?

There's no ideal solution to this workflow. What are the options, and what are the trade-offs between them?

Role fit

What does a commitment to the outcome look like when the customer's goal keeps shifting?

How do you feel about spending a large part of your time travelling to customers?

How to prepare

  1. Think out loud. Palantir's phone interview guide says "Think out loud", because "the only way we can understand your thought process is to hear you talk". It also says "Don't be afraid to ask questions" and "Start simple and then expand".7
  2. Practise coding outside your usual editor. Palantir says you may be asked to use HackerRank or Google Docs.7 Rehearse writing and explaining code in a shared document, and check your connection beforehand.
  3. Work in someone else's code. Palantir suggests swapping projects with a friend to see how quickly you can understand their code, fixing an open-source bug, and adding a feature or a new behaviour to an existing program. After a task, it suggests asking "Was there a better way you could have found the bug?"10
  4. Show your options before you build. For open-ended problems, Palantir tells you to "articulate the alternatives and trade-offs" and to "Deliver a functioning idea first, then expand it afterwards."9 Its examples of open-ended work include "Building a complex system with multiple parts from scratch" and "Enabling a workflow for which no ideal solution exists", though it gives these as examples of the work, not as interview questions.9
  5. Keep moving when stuck. The Solving Technical Problems guide advises "When you don't know what to do, the best thing is to just do something."11
  6. Prepare a story for each on-site theme. Executing, challenging yourself, motivating others, making judgements and failing.6 Pick real examples and be honest about what went wrong.
  7. Map your examples to the listing's values. Have a story for agency, for embracing ambiguity and for going where you were needed most.4

Worth mentioning in the interview

  • With its Q2 2026 results, Palantir raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $8.150 billion to $8.158 billion.2 In the same release, CEO Alex Karp said "Demand for AI sovereignty has now been unleashed."2
  • A Ministry of Defence notice, published 23 January 2026, records a follow-on enterprise agreement with Palantir Technologies UK, Ltd. worth £240,600,000 excluding VAT. It was signed on 30 December 2025 and runs from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029.12
  • City AM reported on 11 August 2026 that the Department of Health and Social Care said Palantir's £330m NHS Federated Data Platform contract "will be reviewed ahead of the February 2027 break clause".13
  • City AM reported on 9 June 2026 that "Palantir is set to sue Sadiq Khan after the London Mayor blocked a £50m contract with the Metropolitan Police", which Khan vetoed in May 2026. It said Palantir's lawyers had sent a pre-action letter to the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime, and identified Louis Mosley as "Palantir's UK chief executive".14
